Common Conditions Treated

There are a number of common emergency conditions we treat here in our office. For instance, we see a lot of allergic reactions here in our office that, if left untreated, could become life-threatening very quickly. This can be an allergy to a certain food your pet has eaten, though skin allergies are also a possibility. Heat stroke and heat exhaustion are also common reasons people bring their pets into our emergency care clinic.

Broken bones and other trauma, such as from a car accident or other incident, are also commonly seen here in our office. Our staff is trained to handle these types of trauma and we will do our best to help calm your pet down and perform the right treatment to relieve pain and ensure proper healing.

Some other common emergency or urgent conditions we see here in our office include:

  • intestinal blockage
  • urinary infections
  • accidental toxin ingestion (i.e. chocolate in dogs)
  • breathing problems
  • seizures
  • eye and ear problems
  • difficult or dangerous births in pregnant animals

If your pet is experiencing any of these conditions, then we recommend you give our office a call so we can see your pet immediately for an evaluation and treatment.

When to Seek Emergency Care

Sometimes, your pet may have some symptoms but you're not sure whether or not emergency care is needed. Of course, no two pets will react the exact same way to the same illness or injury, but there are some specific symptoms that would almost always warrant a trip to the emergency vet. These include:

  • inability to keep down food
  • deep cuts and wounds
  • broken bones
  • difficulty breathing
  • ingestion of toxins

Even if you're not sure if your pet is encountering a medical emergency, it's always better to be safe rather than sorry.
